The Hunger
Take a step back to the 80’s for this adaptation of the lesbian vampire story starring the magnificent Catherine Deneuve as the vampiric seductress and Susan Sarandon as her victim. Also starring David Bowie, this haunting blend of horror and ’80s New Wave (with Bauhaus theme music) is a classic and definitely worth dusting off for another look. This 1990 BBC adaptaion of Nigel Nichiolson’s book A Portrait of a Marriage provides a forthright and intriguing portrayal of the torrid love affair between Vita Sackville-West and Violet Keppel (Trefusis); an affair that continued for many years despite their husband’s disapproval.

Desert Hearts

When Night is Falling
In this 1995 Canadian film, Camille Baker (Pascale Bussières), a professor of mythology at a conservative Christian college, struggles with her career and relationship with fellow professor Martin (Henry Czerny). When she meets sexy and charming circus performer Petra (Rachael Crawford), she is unexpectedly drawn to her. Their courtship is woven through a backdrop of lush colour and carnival atmosphere.
